Ek is ‘n Hugenoter.

  • Ek dra my uniform met trots.
  • Ek woon al my sportoefeninge getrou by omdat my liggaam en gees gesond bly en my maats op my staatmaak.
  • By Hugenote voel ek veilig en geliefd.

“Mik hoog”.

Mnr. P.H. Nortje is deur die volgende skoolhoofde opgevolg:

1962 – 1966 Mnr. N.J.P.J.S. van Staden

1966 – 1970 Mnr. J.A. Malan

1971 – 1990 Mnr. P.A. Retief

1990 – 1996 Mnr. P.M. Viviers

1997 – 2003 Mnr. C. Gerber

2003 – 2004 Mnr. J. Fourie (waarnemend)

2005 –2020 Mnr. H. Schemper

2020 – tot huidige datum: Mnr. S. Hertz

Aan die voet van die bloue berge

van ou Groenberg golwend sag,

in die skadu van ou Sneeukop

lê ons dorp in al sy prag.

Waar ons skool so sterk gegroei het

soos die wingerd om ons vry

sal ons glorie en tradisie

steeds ons hoogste roeping bly.

Hulde aan ons skool en leuse,

aan ‘n edele simbool.

“Mik hoog!” is ons strewe.

Hugenote Laerskool.

Huguenot Primary

Welcome to Huguenot Primary School, where tradition and future go hand in hand! We are a proud, dual-medium primary school with a rich history and a passion for excellence in academics, sport and culture. At Huguenot Primary School, we believe in empowering every child with knowledge, values and leadership skills that will help them face the future with confidence.

We create a supportive and inspiring learning environment where every learner is encouraged to reach their full potential. With a dedicated team of educators and a strong community spirit, we pride ourselves on being a school where children not only learn, but also thrive.

Where every child is equipped for life.

Huguenot Primary School is a diverse educational institution in the heart of the Boland countryside. Our values and principles are modelled on the Huguenot Way, which includes the following pillars: Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Good Citizenship.

We strive for excellence and the holistic development of every child: academically, physically, culturally, socially and spiritually. Through professional education, we ensure optimal growth, quality sports and cultural exposure, as well as happy children.

I am a true Blackie.

  • I am a true Blackie, wearing my uniform with pride.
  • Greeting others and showing kindness are parts of who I am.
  • At our school, we help each other because we care for each other.
  • I am fond of my classmates even though we do not all look, think and act the same.
  • True Blackies are obedient, honest and trustworthy. You will only hear us telling the truth.
  • I show respect to my teachers and peers whether I am in class or outside the school.
  • Huguenot gives equal opportunities to all of us whether participating in sport, academics or culture.
  • I know that knowledge empowers us and I try to give my best when it comes to school work. Only my best is good enough.
  • We learn to work as a team: attending practices diligently because we know that a healthy body houses a healthy mind.
    We depend on one another.
  • I take pride in my classroom, school grounds and the environment.
We keep it neat at all times.
  • Our school honours our community and environment. It is my responsibility to see that it remains special.
  • “Please”, “thank you” and “sorry” are still magic words. My school is a safe haven where I feel cared for and loved.
  • In the true Huguenot manner, I know that, “Once a Blackie, always a Blackie!”

Huguenot equips me for life and I live by our motto, “Aim High!”

“Aim high”. It’s more than just our motto. It represents the spirit in which we act inside and outside the classroom, school and home. Based on our motto, it is our mission to offer every learner the opportunity to realise his/her full potential.

Huguenot Primary School prides itself on being a value-driven school. Values influence our behaviour and guide our actions and decisions daily. We strive to cultivate a sense of purpose and meaning in all our learners to help them develop into well-rounded, responsible and compassionate individuals.

It is important for us to equip all our learners with the necessary skills to apply these values in their daily lives, as well as in society, thereby making a positive difference.

Huguenot Primary School is part of Wellington’s rich educational heritage.  The school’s inception is the result of the merger of the original girls’ and boys’ high schools where local learners initially received instruction.  Today, we continue to build on the strong values and principles of our founding fathers.

After the merger of the original girls’ and boys’ high schools in 1954, Huguenot Primary School was established as a parallel-medium school. The school was initially housed in the old school building in Market Street.  In 1973 the school moved into the new school building in General Hertzog Boulevard and began to function independently of Huguenot High School. The well-known author, Mr P.H. Nortje, was the newly appointed Huguenot Primary School’s first principal.

The school originally (1954 – 1972) only accommodated learners from Grade 4 to 7, but after the move to the new school building, also started teaching Grade 1 to 3 learners.

In 2013, the school added a Grade R section, Goggagrot, and in 2016 the pre-primary division was moved to the former Dwergiebos site, which has since been known as Huguenot Primary School’s Doemsie Campus. It accommodates learners from Grade RR to Grade R.

Mr P.H. Nortje was succeeded by the following principals:

1962 – 1966 Mr N.J.P.J.S. van Staden

1966 – 1970 Mr J.A. Malan

1971 – 1990 Mr P.A. Retief

1990 – 1996 Mr P.M. Viviers

1997 – 2003 Mr C. Gerber

2003 – 2004 Mr J. Fourie (acting)

2005 –2020 Mr H. Schemper

2020 – until current date: Mr S. Hertz

At the foot of the stately mountains

of Groenberg sloping down,

in the shadow of old Sneeukop

lies a very special town.

It is here that our school has risen

and has grown from weak to strong

like the vineyards all around us

this is where we now belong.

Glory to our school and motto,

to our only golden rule:

“Aim high!” is that honoured cry,

Huguenot our Primary School
