Ons het twee o.11- en o.13-seuns- en dogterspanne wat almal in die plaaslike ligas deelneem.<\/p>\n
Daar word ook jaarliks tussen die o.13A-, o.13B- en o.11A-spanne uitgespeel om plekke vir die span wat ons skool by die gerekende nasionale Gerrie Berner Tennistoernooi sal verteenwoordig, te beslis.<\/p>\n
Hugenote Laerskool bied boonop jaarliks ons eie Top Spinners Tennistoernooi vir o.11-seuns- en dogterspanne van omliggende skole aan. Hier stel ons ons o.11-spelers aan \u2019n toernooiformaat bloot ter voorbereiding vir die komende jare waar hulle as o.13\u2019s sal kompeteer.<\/p>\n
Afrigting vind by die bane van Hugenote Laerskool, Hugenote Ho\u00ebrskool en die Wellington Tennisklub plaas en ons is bevoorreg om die bekwame afrigters van HEAT as deel van ons tennisspan te h\u00ea.<\/p>\n
Vir leerders wat nie in spanne speel nie, is daar die geleentheid om hul vaardighede by ons weeklikse oefeninge vir verskillende ouderdoms- en vaardigheidsgroepe te ontwikkel.<\/p>\n
Ons personeel bied tennisafrigting aan waar die nodige vaardighede en kennis rondom die spel vir gr.1 \u2013 gr.7 aangeleer word.<\/p>\n
SWEM<\/strong><\/p>\nOns jaarlikse swem-interhuisgala, wat in die 1ste kwartaal plaasvind, is die hoogtepunt op ons swemkalender. Dit dien ook as \u2018n geleentheid waar die lede van ons swemspan ge\u00efdentifiseer word. Hierdie span oefen weekliks en verteenwoordig die skool by verskeie liga- en ander swemgalas.<\/p>\n
Gedurende die swemseisoen oefen swemmers twee maal per week by Hugenote Ho\u00ebrskool se swembad.<\/p>\n
Hugenote Laerskool bied ook jaarliks die Blackie Splash gala aan waar ons swemmers teen van die sterker swemskole in die Paarl en omgewing meeding.<\/p>\n
KRIEKET<\/strong><\/p>\nAlhoewel krieket \u2018n spansport is, fokus ons by Hugenote ook op die ontwikkeling van individuele kolf-, boul- en veldwerkvaardighede.<\/p>\n
Ons o\/7-, o\/8- en o\/9-krieketspelers speel mini-krieket. Hulle kry die geleentheid om basiese krieketvaardighede aan te leer en aan toernooie deel te neem. Ons jaarlikse mini-krieketaand, waar ouers en kinders spanne inskryf en prettige wedstryde teen mekaar speel, is die hoogtepunt en afsluiting van ons mini-krieketprogram.<\/p>\n
Ons seniorkrieketspanne oefen weekliks en neem jaarliks met groot welslae aan liga- en vriendskaplike wedstryde deel. Ons bou aan \u2019n kontinu\u00efteitsplan om te verseker dat die spelers se vaardighede konstant ontwikkel soos wat hulle vanaf o.11 na o.13 vorder om sodoende \u2019n goeie grondslag te l\u00ea vir moontlike deelname aan krieket in die ho\u00ebrskool.<\/p>\n
TWEEKAMP<\/strong><\/p>\nTweekamp is \u2018n opwindende en dinamiese sport wat by Hugenote Laerskool in kwartaal 1 en 4 aangebied word. Hierdie sportsoort behels \u2018n kombinasie van hardloop en swem, wat nie net fisiese fiksheid bevorder nie, maar ook deursettingsvermo\u00eb, spoed en taktiese beplanning vereis.<\/p>\n
Ons is trots daarop om by Boland Tweekamp geaffilieer te wees. Dit bied aan ons leerders die geleentheid om mededingend op provinsiale vlak deel te neem en hul vaardighede verder te ontwikkel. NETBAL<\/strong><\/p>\nNetbal is \u2018n wintersport wat in die tweede en derde kwartaal beoefen word. By Hugenote wil ons graag van jongs af die genot van die spel aan elke speelster bekendstel, deelname aanmoedig en op vaardigheidsontwikkeling fokus.<\/p>\n
Die verskillende spanne word deur ons personeel, in samewerking met buite-afrigters, afgerig. Ons wil verseker dat alle spesalis-velde tydens afrigting aangespreek word.<\/p>\n
Ons bied\u00a0 mini-netbal vir o.7\u2019s tot o.9\u2019s aan.\u00a0 Hier fokus ons op die ontwikkeling en groei van elke speler. Ons grootste doelwit is die ontwikkeling van die sport en om aan soveel as moontlik kinders \u2019n geleentheid te bied om deel te neem aan en \u2018n liefde te te kweek vir netbal.. In kwartaal twee val ons fokus op die aanleer van re\u00ebls en \u2019n beter begrip vir die spel, terwyl ons in kwartaal drie met ander skole kompeteer.<\/p>\n
Ons bied jaarliks ons eie mini-netbaltoernooi aan, By hierdie \u201cMini-netbal met \u2019n Twist\u201d-toernooi kan ons spelers vir die eerste keer op \u2019n prettige manier met ander skole kompeteer.<\/p>\n
Ons senior-netbalspanne, o.10 \u2013 o.13, kompeteer reeds vanaf die begin van kwartaal 2 in verskeie ligas en speel ook talle vriendskaplike wedstryde gedurende die seisoen.<\/p>\n
Die o.13A-netbalspan het jaarliks die voorreg om tydens die Maart-skoolvakansie, ter voorbereiding vir die netbalseisoen, aan die Kobus Wiese Superreeks toernooi deel te neem.<\/p>\n
HOKKIE<\/strong><\/p>\nHokkie word hoofsaaklik in die tweede en derde kwartaal aangebied. Dit is \u2019n gewilde wintersport wat deur beide seuns en dogters gespeel word.<\/p>\n
By Hugenote fokus ons hokkie-afrigters op die ontwikkeling van ons spelers se fiksheid, spoed, krag, stok- en balvaardighede, sowel as op hul beweeglikheid en posisionele spel.<\/p>\n
Die verskillende spanne word deur ons personeel, in samewerking met buite-afrigters, afgerig. Ons wil verseker dat alle spesalis-velde tydens afrigting aangespreek word.<\/p>\n
Ons o.7-, o.8- en o.9-leerders speel mini-hokkie. Hier is dit ons hoofdoel om \u2018n liefde vir die sport, sowel as span- en sportmangees by ons jong spelers te kweek. Elke kind kry die geleentheid om deel te neem en hul vaardighede in elke posisie te oefen. Sodoende word die grondslag vir volhoubare deelname en prestasie gel\u00ea.<\/p>\n
Die o.10-, o.11-, o.12- en o.13-leerders speel seniorhokkie en neem aan formele wedstryde deel. Omdat daar nie \u2019n formele hokkie-liga, weens die tekort aan belangstellende skole, in ons area is nie, plaas dit Hugenote Laerskool in die ideale posisie om sy eie liga te bou en daardeur met van die sterkste hokkieskole in en buite ons onmiddellike area kragte te meet.<\/p>\n
By ons seniorhokkie word die fokus grotendeels geplaas op die bou van die individuele vaardighede wat benodig word om in sekere posisies te kan speel. Daar word ook op verskillende spelpatrone wat in wedstryde ge\u00efmplementeer kan word, gefokus.<\/p>\n

LANDLOOP<\/strong><\/h3>\nBy Hugenote benut ons al die voordele wat landloop bied.\u00a0 Die algemene fiksheid wat ons leerders hier verkry, is \u2018n bate wanneer hulle die skool in aan ander sportsoorte verteenwoordig.<\/p>\n

<\/i><\/i><\/span>SUMMER SPORT<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>\nATHLETICS<\/strong><\/p>\nHuguenot Primary School is immensely proud of the athletics programme that is followed at the school. The remarkable results, mass participation, and top athletes that the programme produces are a testament to its effectiveness.<\/p>\n
Our inter-house event, where the Blue, White and Gold teams compete against each other with great enthusiasm for the Team and Spirit Cup, takes place annually. On this occasion, the athletes with potential for our athletics team are identified.<\/p>\n
Athletes who qualify for our school team participate in various events during the athletic season. Here they are given the opportunity to participate at friendly, regional and provincial level.<\/p>\n
Athletics is mainly offered in the 1st and 4th terms.<\/p>\n

TENNIS<\/strong><\/p>\nAt Huguenot Primary School, we aim to grow all tennis players’ potential fully to develop their character, self-esteem and talents to the maximum, promote their participation and deliver their best performance according to their unique talents and dedication.<\/p>\n
We have two U11 and U13 boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams all competing in the local leagues.<\/p>\n
There is also an annual competition between the U13A, U13B and U11A teams to determine places for the team that will represent our school at the prestigious national Gerrie Berner Tennis Tournament.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School also hosts our own Top Spinners Tennis Tournament annually for U11 boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams from surrounding schools. Here we expose our U11 players to a tournament format in preparation for the coming years where they will compete as U13s.<\/p>\n
Coaching takes place at the courts of Huguenot Primary School, Huguenot High School and the Wellington Tennis Club where we are privileged to have the competent coaches of HEAT as part of our tennis team.<\/p>\n
For learners who do not play in teams, there is the opportunity to develop their skills at our weekly practices for different age and skill groups.<\/p>\n
Our staff offer tennis coaching where the necessary skills and knowledge regarding the game for gr.1 \u2013 gr.7 are taught.<\/p>\n
SWIMMING<\/strong><\/p>\nOur annual swimming inter-house gala, which takes place in the 1st term, is the highlight on our swimming calendar. It also serves as an event where the members of our swimming team are identified. This team practices weekly and represents the school at various league and other swimming galas.<\/p>\n
During the swimming season, swimmers train twice a week at Huguenot High School’s swimming pool.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School also hosts the annual Blackie Splash Gala where our swimmers compete against some of the stronger swimming schools in Paarl and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
CRICKET<\/p>\n
Although cricket is a team sport, we also focus on developing individual batting, bowling and fielding skills.<\/p>\n
Our U7, U8 and U9 cricketers play mini-cricket. They get the opportunity to learn basic cricket skills and participate in tournaments. Our annual mini-cricket evening, where parents and children enter teams and play fun matches against each other, is the highlight and conclusion of our mini-cricket programme.<\/p>\n
Our senior cricket teams train weekly and participate in league and friendly matches every year with remarkable success. We are building on a continuity plan to ensure that the players’ skills are constantly developing as they progress from U11 to U13 to lay a good foundation for possible participation in cricket in high school.<\/p>\n

<\/i><\/i><\/span>WINTER SPORT<\/span><\/a><\/h4><\/div>\nRUGBY<\/strong><\/h3>\nRugby is a winter sport that is practised in the second and third terms. At Huguenot Primary, the focus in our coaching is on skill development, participation and the enjoyment of the game. We would like every player to proudly represent our school on the rugby field.<\/p>\n
The different teams are coached by our staff, in collaboration with outside coaches. We want to ensure that all specialist fields are addressed during coaching.<\/p>\n
We offer mini-rugby for U7 to U9 players. Here we focus on the development and growth of each player’s basic rugby skills. We aim to offer as many children as possible a chance to participate.<\/p>\n
One mini-rugby practice per week is held by the coaches. Our mini-rugby players are privileged to receive coaching from the skilled coaches of RuggaRoots during their second weekly practice.<\/p>\n
Our senior rugby teams fall under the two prescribed age groups for primary schools, namely U11 and U13. Here we try to establish the structure of rugby by focusing particularly on positional play.<\/p>\n
The U13A team has the privilege of participating in the Kobus Wiese Super Series during the March school holidays. It serves as good preparation for the winter season.<\/p>\n
As part of the Boland’s illustrious rugby tradition, our school’s rugby culture is strong, and our values are reflected with every run of the field.<\/p>\n
NETBALL<\/strong><\/p>\nNetball is a winter sport that is practised in the second and third terms. At Huguenot Primary, we would like to introduce the enjoyment of the game to every player from an early age, to encourage participation and focus on skill development.<\/p>\n
The different teams are coached by our staff, in collaboration with outside coaches. We want to ensure that all specialist fields are addressed during coaching.<\/p>\n
We offer mini-netball for U7s to U9s.\u00a0 Here we focus on the development and growth of each player. Our biggest goal is the development of the sport and to provide as many children as possible the opportunity to participate in and cultivate a love for netball. In term two, our focus falls on learning rules and a better understanding of the game, while in term three we compete with other schools.<\/p>\n

We host our own mini-netball tournament every year. At this “Mini-netball with a Twist” tournament, our players can compete with other schools in a fun way for the first time.<\/p>\n
Our senior netball teams, U10 \u2013 U13, will compete in various leagues from the start of the second term and play numerous friendly matches during the season.<\/p>\n
The U13A netball team has the privilege of participating in the Kobus Wiese Super Series tournament during the March school holidays, in preparation for the netball season.<\/p>\n
HOCKEY<\/strong><\/p>\nHockey is mainly offered in the second and third terms. It is a popular winter sport played by both boys and girls.<\/p>\n
At Huguenot Primary, our hockey coaches focus on developing our players’ fitness, speed, strength, stick and ball skills, as well as on their mobility and positional play.<\/p>\n
The different teams are coached by our staff, in collaboration with outside coaches. We want to ensure that all specialist fields are addressed during coaching.<\/p>\n
Our U7, U8 and U9 learners play mini-hockey. Here, it is our main goal to cultivate a love for the sport, as well as team spirit and sportsmanship in our young players. Each child gets the opportunity to participate and practise their skills in each position. In this way, the foundation for sustainable participation and performance is laid.<\/p>\n
The U10, U11, U12 and U13 learners play senior hockey and participate in formal matches. As there is no formal hockey league in our area, due to the shortage of interested schools, this puts Huguenot Primary School in the ideal position to build its own league and thereby compete with some of the strongest hockey schools in and outside of our immediate area.<\/p>\n
The focus at our senior hockey is largely placed on building the individual skills required to be able to play in certain positions. There is also a focus on different gameplay patterns that can be implemented in matches.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School boasts with numerous provincial hockey players every year.<\/p>\n
CROSS-COUNTRY<\/strong><\/p>\nAt Huguenot Primary, we take advantage of all the benefits that cross-country has to offer.\u00a0 The general fitness that our learners acquire here is an asset when they represent the school in other sports.<\/p>\n
In the second and third terms, we participate in the schools\u2019 league races which usually take place on Friday afternoons.<\/p>\n
At the end of the league season, the learners who qualify advance to the provincial and national championships.<\/p>\n

At Huguenot Primary, chess is not only a sport, but also a place where strategic thinking, problem-solving skills and the ability to concentrate are combined with great fun.<\/p>\n

We have two U11 and U13 boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams all competing in the local leagues.<\/p>\n
There is also an annual competition between the U13A, U13B and U11A teams to determine places for the team that will represent our school at the prestigious national Gerrie Berner Tennis Tournament.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School also hosts our own Top Spinners Tennis Tournament annually for U11 boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams from surrounding schools. Here we expose our U11 players to a tournament format in preparation for the coming years where they will compete as U13s.<\/p>\n

For learners who do not play in teams, there is the opportunity to develop their skills at our weekly practices for different age and skill groups.<\/p>\n
Our staff offer tennis coaching where the necessary skills and knowledge regarding the game for gr.1 \u2013 gr.7 are taught.<\/p>\n
SWIMMING<\/strong><\/p>\nOur annual swimming inter-house gala, which takes place in the 1st term, is the highlight on our swimming calendar. It also serves as an event where the members of our swimming team are identified. This team practices weekly and represents the school at various league and other swimming galas.<\/p>\n
During the swimming season, swimmers train twice a week at Huguenot High School’s swimming pool.<\/p>\n

Our senior rugby teams fall under the two prescribed age groups for primary schools, namely U11 and U13. Here we try to establish the structure of rugby by focusing particularly on positional play.<\/p>\n

Our U7, U8 and U9 learners play mini-hockey. Here, it is our main goal to cultivate a love for the sport, as well as team spirit and sportsmanship in our young players. Each child gets the opportunity to participate and practise their skills in each position. In this way, the foundation for sustainable participation and performance is laid.<\/p>\n
The U10, U11, U12 and U13 learners play senior hockey and participate in formal matches. As there is no formal hockey league in our area, due to the shortage of interested schools, this puts Huguenot Primary School in the ideal position to build its own league and thereby compete with some of the strongest hockey schools in and outside of our immediate area.<\/p>\n
The focus at our senior hockey is largely placed on building the individual skills required to be able to play in certain positions. There is also a focus on different gameplay patterns that can be implemented in matches.<\/p>\n

We have two U11 and U13 boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams all competing in the local leagues.<\/p>\n
There is also an annual competition between the U13A, U13B and U11A teams to determine places for the team that will represent our school at the prestigious national Gerrie Berner Tennis Tournament.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School also hosts our own Top Spinners Tennis Tournament annually for U11 boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams from surrounding schools. Here we expose our U11 players to a tournament format in preparation for the coming years where they will compete as U13s.<\/p>\n
Coaching takes place at the courts of Huguenot Primary School, Huguenot High School and the Wellington Tennis Club where we are privileged to have the competent coaches of HEAT as part of our tennis team.<\/p>\n
For learners who do not play in teams, there is the opportunity to develop their skills at our weekly practices for different age and skill groups.<\/p>\n
Our staff offer tennis coaching where the necessary skills and knowledge regarding the game for gr.1 \u2013 gr.7 are taught.<\/p>\n
SWIMMING<\/strong><\/p>\nOur annual swimming inter-house gala, which takes place in the 1st term, is the highlight on our swimming calendar. It also serves as an event where the members of our swimming team are identified. This team practices weekly and represents the school at various league and other swimming galas.<\/p>\n
During the swimming season, swimmers train twice a week at Huguenot High School’s swimming pool.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School also hosts the annual Blackie Splash Gala where our swimmers compete against some of the stronger swimming schools in Paarl and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
CRICKET<\/p>\n
Although cricket is a team sport, we also focus on developing individual batting, bowling and fielding skills.<\/p>\n
Our U7, U8 and U9 cricketers play mini-cricket. They get the opportunity to learn basic cricket skills and participate in tournaments. Our annual mini-cricket evening, where parents and children enter teams and play fun matches against each other, is the highlight and conclusion of our mini-cricket programme.<\/p>\n
Our senior cricket teams train weekly and participate in league and friendly matches every year with remarkable success. We are building on a continuity plan to ensure that the players’ skills are constantly developing as they progress from U11 to U13 to lay a good foundation for possible participation in cricket in high school.<\/p>\n

We offer mini-rugby for U7 to U9 players. Here we focus on the development and growth of each player’s basic rugby skills. We aim to offer as many children as possible a chance to participate.<\/p>\n
One mini-rugby practice per week is held by the coaches. Our mini-rugby players are privileged to receive coaching from the skilled coaches of RuggaRoots during their second weekly practice.<\/p>\n
Our senior rugby teams fall under the two prescribed age groups for primary schools, namely U11 and U13. Here we try to establish the structure of rugby by focusing particularly on positional play.<\/p>\n
The U13A team has the privilege of participating in the Kobus Wiese Super Series during the March school holidays. It serves as good preparation for the winter season.<\/p>\n

Our U7, U8 and U9 learners play mini-hockey. Here, it is our main goal to cultivate a love for the sport, as well as team spirit and sportsmanship in our young players. Each child gets the opportunity to participate and practise their skills in each position. In this way, the foundation for sustainable participation and performance is laid.<\/p>\n
The U10, U11, U12 and U13 learners play senior hockey and participate in formal matches. As there is no formal hockey league in our area, due to the shortage of interested schools, this puts Huguenot Primary School in the ideal position to build its own league and thereby compete with some of the strongest hockey schools in and outside of our immediate area.<\/p>\n
The focus at our senior hockey is largely placed on building the individual skills required to be able to play in certain positions. There is also a focus on different gameplay patterns that can be implemented in matches.<\/p>\n

NETBAL<\/strong><\/p>\n
Netbal is \u2018n wintersport wat in die tweede en derde kwartaal beoefen word. By Hugenote wil ons graag van jongs af die genot van die spel aan elke speelster bekendstel, deelname aanmoedig en op vaardigheidsontwikkeling fokus.<\/p>\n
Die verskillende spanne word deur ons personeel, in samewerking met buite-afrigters, afgerig. Ons wil verseker dat alle spesalis-velde tydens afrigting aangespreek word.<\/p>\n
Ons bied\u00a0 mini-netbal vir o.7\u2019s tot o.9\u2019s aan.\u00a0 Hier fokus ons op die ontwikkeling en groei van elke speler. Ons grootste doelwit is die ontwikkeling van die sport en om aan soveel as moontlik kinders \u2019n geleentheid te bied om deel te neem aan en \u2018n liefde te te kweek vir netbal.. In kwartaal twee val ons fokus op die aanleer van re\u00ebls en \u2019n beter begrip vir die spel, terwyl ons in kwartaal drie met ander skole kompeteer.<\/p>\n
Ons bied jaarliks ons eie mini-netbaltoernooi aan, By hierdie \u201cMini-netbal met \u2019n Twist\u201d-toernooi kan ons spelers vir die eerste keer op \u2019n prettige manier met ander skole kompeteer.<\/p>\n
Ons senior-netbalspanne, o.10 \u2013 o.13, kompeteer reeds vanaf die begin van kwartaal 2 in verskeie ligas en speel ook talle vriendskaplike wedstryde gedurende die seisoen.<\/p>\n
Die o.13A-netbalspan het jaarliks die voorreg om tydens die Maart-skoolvakansie, ter voorbereiding vir die netbalseisoen, aan die Kobus Wiese Superreeks toernooi deel te neem.<\/p>\n
HOKKIE<\/strong><\/p>\n
Hokkie word hoofsaaklik in die tweede en derde kwartaal aangebied. Dit is \u2019n gewilde wintersport wat deur beide seuns en dogters gespeel word.<\/p>\n
By Hugenote fokus ons hokkie-afrigters op die ontwikkeling van ons spelers se fiksheid, spoed, krag, stok- en balvaardighede, sowel as op hul beweeglikheid en posisionele spel.<\/p>\n
Die verskillende spanne word deur ons personeel, in samewerking met buite-afrigters, afgerig. Ons wil verseker dat alle spesalis-velde tydens afrigting aangespreek word.<\/p>\n
Ons o.7-, o.8- en o.9-leerders speel mini-hokkie. Hier is dit ons hoofdoel om \u2018n liefde vir die sport, sowel as span- en sportmangees by ons jong spelers te kweek. Elke kind kry die geleentheid om deel te neem en hul vaardighede in elke posisie te oefen. Sodoende word die grondslag vir volhoubare deelname en prestasie gel\u00ea.<\/p>\n
Die o.10-, o.11-, o.12- en o.13-leerders speel seniorhokkie en neem aan formele wedstryde deel. Omdat daar nie \u2019n formele hokkie-liga, weens die tekort aan belangstellende skole, in ons area is nie, plaas dit Hugenote Laerskool in die ideale posisie om sy eie liga te bou en daardeur met van die sterkste hokkieskole in en buite ons onmiddellike area kragte te meet.<\/p>\n
By ons seniorhokkie word die fokus grotendeels geplaas op die bou van die individuele vaardighede wat benodig word om in sekere posisies te kan speel. Daar word ook op verskillende spelpatrone wat in wedstryde ge\u00efmplementeer kan word, gefokus.<\/p>\n

By Hugenote benut ons al die voordele wat landloop bied.\u00a0 Die algemene fiksheid wat ons leerders hier verkry, is \u2018n bate wanneer hulle die skool in aan ander sportsoorte verteenwoordig.<\/p>\n
In die tweede en derde kwartaal neem ons aan die skole-ligawedlope, wat gewoonlik op Vrydagmiddae plaasvind, deel.<\/p>\n
Na afloop van die liga-seisoen dring die leerders wat kwalifiseer na die provinsiale en nasionale kampioenskappe deur.<\/p>\n

\nATHLETICS<\/strong><\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School is immensely proud of the athletics programme that is followed at the school. The remarkable results, mass participation, and top athletes that the programme produces are a testament to its effectiveness.<\/p>\n
Our inter-house event, where the Blue, White and Gold teams compete against each other with great enthusiasm for the Team and Spirit Cup, takes place annually. On this occasion, the athletes with potential for our athletics team are identified.<\/p>\n
Athletes who qualify for our school team participate in various events during the athletic season. Here they are given the opportunity to participate at friendly, regional and provincial level.<\/p>\n
Athletics is mainly offered in the 1st and 4th terms.<\/p>\n

TENNIS<\/strong><\/p>\n
At Huguenot Primary School, we aim to grow all tennis players’ potential fully to develop their character, self-esteem and talents to the maximum, promote their participation and deliver their best performance according to their unique talents and dedication.<\/p>\n
We have two U11 and U13 boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams all competing in the local leagues.<\/p>\n
There is also an annual competition between the U13A, U13B and U11A teams to determine places for the team that will represent our school at the prestigious national Gerrie Berner Tennis Tournament.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School also hosts our own Top Spinners Tennis Tournament annually for U11 boys\u2019 and girls\u2019 teams from surrounding schools. Here we expose our U11 players to a tournament format in preparation for the coming years where they will compete as U13s.<\/p>\n
Coaching takes place at the courts of Huguenot Primary School, Huguenot High School and the Wellington Tennis Club where we are privileged to have the competent coaches of HEAT as part of our tennis team.<\/p>\n
For learners who do not play in teams, there is the opportunity to develop their skills at our weekly practices for different age and skill groups.<\/p>\n
Our staff offer tennis coaching where the necessary skills and knowledge regarding the game for gr.1 \u2013 gr.7 are taught.<\/p>\n
SWIMMING<\/strong><\/p>\n
Our annual swimming inter-house gala, which takes place in the 1st term, is the highlight on our swimming calendar. It also serves as an event where the members of our swimming team are identified. This team practices weekly and represents the school at various league and other swimming galas.<\/p>\n
During the swimming season, swimmers train twice a week at Huguenot High School’s swimming pool.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School also hosts the annual Blackie Splash Gala where our swimmers compete against some of the stronger swimming schools in Paarl and the surrounding area.<\/p>\n
CRICKET<\/p>\n
Although cricket is a team sport, we also focus on developing individual batting, bowling and fielding skills.<\/p>\n
Our U7, U8 and U9 cricketers play mini-cricket. They get the opportunity to learn basic cricket skills and participate in tournaments. Our annual mini-cricket evening, where parents and children enter teams and play fun matches against each other, is the highlight and conclusion of our mini-cricket programme.<\/p>\n
Our senior cricket teams train weekly and participate in league and friendly matches every year with remarkable success. We are building on a continuity plan to ensure that the players’ skills are constantly developing as they progress from U11 to U13 to lay a good foundation for possible participation in cricket in high school.<\/p>\n

\nRUGBY<\/strong><\/h3>\n
Rugby is a winter sport that is practised in the second and third terms. At Huguenot Primary, the focus in our coaching is on skill development, participation and the enjoyment of the game. We would like every player to proudly represent our school on the rugby field.<\/p>\n
The different teams are coached by our staff, in collaboration with outside coaches. We want to ensure that all specialist fields are addressed during coaching.<\/p>\n
We offer mini-rugby for U7 to U9 players. Here we focus on the development and growth of each player’s basic rugby skills. We aim to offer as many children as possible a chance to participate.<\/p>\n
One mini-rugby practice per week is held by the coaches. Our mini-rugby players are privileged to receive coaching from the skilled coaches of RuggaRoots during their second weekly practice.<\/p>\n
Our senior rugby teams fall under the two prescribed age groups for primary schools, namely U11 and U13. Here we try to establish the structure of rugby by focusing particularly on positional play.<\/p>\n
The U13A team has the privilege of participating in the Kobus Wiese Super Series during the March school holidays. It serves as good preparation for the winter season.<\/p>\n
As part of the Boland’s illustrious rugby tradition, our school’s rugby culture is strong, and our values are reflected with every run of the field.<\/p>\n
NETBALL<\/strong><\/p>\n
Netball is a winter sport that is practised in the second and third terms. At Huguenot Primary, we would like to introduce the enjoyment of the game to every player from an early age, to encourage participation and focus on skill development.<\/p>\n
The different teams are coached by our staff, in collaboration with outside coaches. We want to ensure that all specialist fields are addressed during coaching.<\/p>\n
We offer mini-netball for U7s to U9s.\u00a0 Here we focus on the development and growth of each player. Our biggest goal is the development of the sport and to provide as many children as possible the opportunity to participate in and cultivate a love for netball. In term two, our focus falls on learning rules and a better understanding of the game, while in term three we compete with other schools.<\/p>\n

We host our own mini-netball tournament every year. At this “Mini-netball with a Twist” tournament, our players can compete with other schools in a fun way for the first time.<\/p>\n
Our senior netball teams, U10 \u2013 U13, will compete in various leagues from the start of the second term and play numerous friendly matches during the season.<\/p>\n
The U13A netball team has the privilege of participating in the Kobus Wiese Super Series tournament during the March school holidays, in preparation for the netball season.<\/p>\n
HOCKEY<\/strong><\/p>\n
Hockey is mainly offered in the second and third terms. It is a popular winter sport played by both boys and girls.<\/p>\n
At Huguenot Primary, our hockey coaches focus on developing our players’ fitness, speed, strength, stick and ball skills, as well as on their mobility and positional play.<\/p>\n
The different teams are coached by our staff, in collaboration with outside coaches. We want to ensure that all specialist fields are addressed during coaching.<\/p>\n
Our U7, U8 and U9 learners play mini-hockey. Here, it is our main goal to cultivate a love for the sport, as well as team spirit and sportsmanship in our young players. Each child gets the opportunity to participate and practise their skills in each position. In this way, the foundation for sustainable participation and performance is laid.<\/p>\n
The U10, U11, U12 and U13 learners play senior hockey and participate in formal matches. As there is no formal hockey league in our area, due to the shortage of interested schools, this puts Huguenot Primary School in the ideal position to build its own league and thereby compete with some of the strongest hockey schools in and outside of our immediate area.<\/p>\n
The focus at our senior hockey is largely placed on building the individual skills required to be able to play in certain positions. There is also a focus on different gameplay patterns that can be implemented in matches.<\/p>\n
Huguenot Primary School boasts with numerous provincial hockey players every year.<\/p>\n
CROSS-COUNTRY<\/strong><\/p>\n
At Huguenot Primary, we take advantage of all the benefits that cross-country has to offer.\u00a0 The general fitness that our learners acquire here is an asset when they represent the school in other sports.<\/p>\n
In the second and third terms, we participate in the schools\u2019 league races which usually take place on Friday afternoons.<\/p>\n
At the end of the league season, the learners who qualify advance to the provincial and national championships.<\/p>\n
CHESS<\/strong><\/p>\n
Chess develops your brain muscle!<\/p>\n
At Huguenot Primary, chess is not only a sport, but also a place where strategic thinking, problem-solving skills and the ability to concentrate are combined with great fun.<\/p>\n
Our chess players can join our chess lessons and participate in tournaments throughout the year.\u00a0 A very skilled external coach, in collaboration with our chess teachers, coaches our rising chess stars. Our teams regularly, and with great success, participate in various tournaments.<\/p>\n
